Titanium has evolved through time to become one of the most preferred wedding ring and jewellery materials amongst both men and women because of its strength as a metal that still manages to still retain its light-weight quality. Its base color can either be silver or gray but this can be further darkened to take the appearance of a deeper shade of platinum when polished.

However, it is necessary to note that Polished Titanium is not Black Titanium which is a special type of titanium that creates a thin layer of black coat on its surface when it is heated up. For this very reason, it is flawed.

At first, the black layer might appear to be scratch-resistant, however, it will wear off with time. An effective alternative to black titanium for anyone who prefers that color of jewelry would be Black Ceramic.

What is the difference between titanium, tungsten, and stainless steel?

The differences between these three metals are not readily apparent because at first glance they look alike. However, their appearance should not fool you because their properties are still very different.

First of all, Stainless Steel is a light-weight metal, a property it shares with Titanium. However, it is not as durable as titanium and therefore, very susceptible to wear and tear depending on how it is handled and preserved. Tungsten, on the other hand, is the most durable of the three which also means it is heavier and most immune to scratches or scuffs.

Stainless steel is the cheapest metal, Tungsten is the most expensive and Titanium is the most popular of the three.

How to care for titanium jewellery

Your titanium jewelry will eventually get scuffed or scratched through daily activities. While scratches will be visible on new rings, with time, they will eventually get an even satin sheen. Dirt, however, can be removed and wiped with warm water and a mild solvent such as dish soap.

First, you have to submerge the jewelry in a bowl of warm soapy water for a couple of minutes then with a soft brush, scrub the jewelry. After that, you rinse the titanium ring and dry it with a microfiber towel.

Are there any health risks with titanium jewellery?

There are hardly any health risks associated with the metal because titanium is hypoallergenic and this makes it the perfect choice for people with sensitive skin. It has no nickel in its chemical components which is a major cause of skin irritation.
